An action against self-will of the police took place in Brest yesterday. Youth activists came to one of the busiest streets of the city with the banner “Human shield”: a traffic police was acquitted, the victims were charged”.

The youth had been standing for about twenty minutes, then the police arrested two participants of the action – BUNT’s activist Ivan Stasiuk and an activist of “European Belarus” Yaugen Skarbets. Thereafter they were set free without drawing up a record.

The protest of the youth was caused by the refusal of the Office of Public Prosecutor to institute proceedings against the traffic policeman who’ve made the “Human shield”. As we have informed, on March 2 traffic policemen Darahakupets and Likhtarovich and two their colleagues have taken part in detention of a drunken driver Raman Myantsiuk on the road Minsk-Mikashevichy. Myantsiuk was on the way to Minsk at a speed of 160 km/h. To stop the criminal, traffic policemen places several cars in his way. There were people in the cars, five adults and one child.

In the end the victims were charged with creation of breakdown situation… The trial has begun today.
