F.A.Q. 33 general questions

1. Who are you and what are your objectives?
BUNT - we are those who love their Motherland and who are tired of the humiliation of the illegal dictatorship over our country and Belarusian people. We are the generation of young Belarusians eager to live in a free, prosperous European Belarus, to have the right for self-actualization and future prospects. We are different, but striving for freedom unites us. We are not afraid of taking the responsibility for our future.
BUNT - these are the people who have a plan. We do not speak, we act!
2. What do you suggest to be an alternative to today’s Belarus?
We will live in a free, independent, democratic, prosperous and nationally-oriented Belarus.
In the country, where people though sweat their guts out, but earn good money for that.
In the country, where graduates can choose the place to work.
In the country, where soldiers are not slaves, who green-color the grass "from here and till lunch", but are the defenders of their Motherland, and get paid for their service the money they deserve.
In the country, where authorities see the businessmen not as "lousy fleas", but as the people who enrich the Budget with their taxes paid and who create work places for other citizens of the country.
In the country that has good, equal and friendly relations with other countries and is not leaning upon a "big brother".
In the country, where police do not thrash people at mass demonstrations, but do catch real criminals.
It is normal to live in the country, which has liberty of speech and conscience, and whose citizens are not divided into "insiders" and "outsiders".
It is normal to live in the country, where our national white-red-white flag and the "Chase" emblem are located on top of the Houses of Government, and where President can speak the Belarusian language.
It is normal to live in the country, where Law is applied and where it is not the people to work for the Government, but it is the Government to work for the prosperity of the people.
It is normal to live in the country, where one has promising future.
3. Who do you suggest to be an alternative to Lukashenko?
Our country has a lot of worthy people who are not afraid of taking-up the responsibility for the destiny of our country. You can be one of them. The best will come to govern the country through a true election.
4. What is you ideology?
Civil patriotism. We want to live in the country where our national white-red-white flag and the "Chase" emblem are located on top of the Houses of Government, and where President can speak the Belarusian language; where kids are taught the true history of our Motherland at school. Where each citizen is a part of Belarus and can influence its future.
5. What methods do you use?
Our method is a nonviolent resistance. Nonviolent resistance does not mean when you've been smitten on the one cheek to offer also the other. It's a blow in the trigger points of your rival. Lukashenko's weak points are his lie and iniquity, supported by fear. When people open their eyes and trust in their power, and feel the responsibility for the destiny of our country, we shall win.
6. There have been so many attempts to change something. Where is the guarantee you win? I don't want to expose myself for nothing.
Only an insurance company can guarantee something. We suggest you trust in your own strength. Our party opposition uses the method of reacting to the actions of authorities. Our main idea is to act. Enough for us to defend, it is time to attack. We are different. We have a plan. We have come to win.
7. Why do you so much dislike our opposition?
The party opposition has fully discredited itself throughout the 12 years of fake struggle against regime; they sank into financial scandals and lack of ideas. There is no point in seeking confidence in it. Thereafter people do not believe in changes, because they see no strong alternative to current regime. The old opposition holds the same actions every year, the slogans are all political and far from the ordinary people. There is almost no direct work with people; information is distributed among the insiders only. The leaders are exclusively busy with taking part in western conferences and increasing their political ratings. We are ready to cooperate with everyone who sees their aim in making the situation in Belarus better, but to cooperate for the result, not just for the process of cooperation. Opposition speaks a lot, we suggest you act!
8. Where have you been before?
We have been waiting for active initiatives from the opposition leaders. Today it has become clear that we can rely on no one but ourselves. BUNT is above all the appeal to act directly. At the square in March 2006 people were not standing for Milinkevich, but for their own future and themselves. These people, having no connection to the party opposition, coped with the fear and are ready to act directly. And this will be youth, not the parties, to become a true revolutionary force to start a nation-wide protest. When everyone realizes that it is upon them to change Belarus we shall win. There are a lot of us. Show people you are not indifferent - and they will stand up by! Overcome you inner fear, believe in your strength - and Lukashenko's dictatorship will fall!
9. No doubt that our country has some problems, but is President to blame?
President - is the ruler of the country. Accordingly, he is accounted for everything that is going on in the country. The problems of Belarus are the problems following an inefficient system of administration, when all power is consolidated in the hands of one person in fact, while all the rest of the state officials are not selected on the basis of just competition, but are appointed from above, subject to the loyalty of the nominee to the regime. Instead of solving vital problems puppet Government makes preparations for either a war with the West, or with Russia, or with the milk yield. We are all to blame that Belarus has bad conditions to live in. Indifference makes the number of problems larger. Remember: no one but you can change the situation to the better. Do not be afraid of taking the responsibility for your own life. After all, be a citizen, not a part of the passive gray mass.
10. Why do we need to change anything? Everything is stable. I am satisfied with all.
The only stable thing is indifference of our people to their own life and the future of their children. Even Russia has realized the lack of prospects in cooperation with Lukashenko, and cut him off the cheap oil and natural gas resources.
In the Belarus, where all power is consolidated in the hands of an inadequate dictator?
In the Belarus, where authorities forge the ballot and shrug off Constitution?
In the Belarus, where famous political figures disappear and people go jail just for their will to think in the way different from the one pointed by the Governmental TV?
In the Belarus, where President decides for you what music to listen and what badges to wear?
In the Belarus, where graduates are forced to work in the Chernobyl-polluted areas?
In the Belarus, where people cannot make two ends meet?
In the Belarus, where each day its puppet Government makes preparations for either a war with the West, or with Russia, or with the milk yield?
In the Belarus, the "outcast country", laughed at by the entire civilized world?
11. Do you really live so badly? Don't you have enough to eat?
If you believe that a life can be measured by the number of chops you can eat a month, then - trust me - we can afford to have enough chops, and clothes, and occasional drinks. But we want to have as much as we are able to earn. And not as much as you are doled out.
12. The examples of color revolutions have the Ukraine and Georgia. Do you really think life has become better there?
Yes, we believe these countries have selected the right way to develop. But nothing can be done in one moment. Today European Union and other foreign investors allocate hundredths of millions of dollars to these countries' economy development. One should realize, that no miracle will happen - and any country having experienced the change of the ruling elites will face crisis. It can be overcome with the help of a clever economic policy; the cases of the Lithuania, Poland and Czech Republic are of example - they went through flower revolutions and now salaries there are 3 times as big as in Belarus. People are not afraid of jail for speaking out their own thoughts. The young have good prospects and the ability to self-actualization.
13. Well, the new authorities will start plundering and selling-out our country! This one is replete at least…
The fact that "our nationally-elected corruption-fighter" has been doing what you say does not mean all people do that. For the finance not to go to the side, we need to have a distinct separation of legislation, executive and court power. Our country has honest and competent experts, who will not let the economy fail after the rule change. We are for private business support, but we are also for leaving the strategically-important companies in the property of the state.
14. It is all folly. After some time everything will change on its own.
Sure. Probably, even our grandchildren will be able to see these changes. Shall we wait?
15. How numerous are you?
We are numerous. But many people are afraid to speak out their active protest to the dictatorship. Overcome your fear! Stand up by us! We need YOU!
16. Who is your chief person?
There is no chief person. There are people to be an example to others. BUNT has no strict hierarchy and a common leader, but it consists of multiple detached organized groups and divisions working in some definite directions, which practically do not interact with each other, but are under a marginal control of the movement Coordination Center. There will be place for everyone in accordance with there will and abilities. Join us!
17. You are kids! You are unable to change anything. Why do you expose the under-aged?
First of all, we are your kids. Second, when adults remain indifferent to their kids' future, the young should take the responsibility of the destiny of the country into their own hands. Freedom is not alcohol or cigarettes - it can be perceived under age.
18. BUNT is a project of Young Battle-front / Zubr / BNF / UCP/ …
People both from political parties and those who have never been adjacent to any political structures join BUNT. Being with BUNT does not exclude the possibility of being a member of a political party. BUNT embraces those who sympathize with some political parties and those who have become disillusioned with the opposition and are not interested in politics. BUNT is above all the appeal to act!
19. BUNT is a political party.
This is not true: political parties are the structures fighting for the rule. BUNT fights for freedom and a better life. Parties have friends, BUNT has an idea.
20. I have a lot of relatives in Russia. I am afraid, that after the rule changes you will proclaim Russia to be the #1 enemy.
We believe that Belarus is to create equal friendly relations with all countries, not counting upon a "big brother". As to Russia, in future it will be one of the main strategic and economical partners of Belarus.
21. What is your opinion of Belarusian language politics in future?
We are for the bilingualism - Belarusian and Russian. But the Belarusian language should be allocated a higher priority in practice rather than in theory. The new rule will treat the Belarusian history and culture with honor; it will implement the politics of a gradual expansion of the Belarusian language use at school, and the companies nationally-oriented will have tax indulgencies and so on. There will be no violent engraft of the Belarusian language.
22. I do not want my country to become a part of the European Union or NATO.
This is your right. We need to have an independent Belarus, where the people can decide what they want. The Belarus where people will know their votes will be counted correctly. The decision of becoming a member of any international union will be taken through a nation-wide referendum only.
23. I do support you, but I am afraid of losing my job / school, or I can go jail.
We are afraid too. Once you step onto the road of struggle for a better life, you should realize this may require a price to be paid. Unfortunately Lukashenko's regime does everything to make people fear and be under control; that is why people are prosecuted, beaten, blackmailed, jailed and deprived of their jobs and schools. The new Belarus will not have this. This is what we are fighting for.
24. Don't you realize America is making use of you - and you are happy do your best for 20 dollars?
Are you judging by yourself? It is the easiest way to blame someone of venality. Especially when you cave no such notion as idea. We work for our Fatherland and our future. We clearly understand what we want and what strategy will lead us to obtaining this goal.
25. Do you mean to say you work on your own money? This is funny to hear!
To perform an action or issue hundredths of thousands of papers or leaflets you need money, and a lot of it. We partly use our own money, partly those who support us both in Belarus and from abroad. You also can be of help. We do not reject any financial help only with one condition: the help provided gives no right to impact our aims, strategy and approach.
26. Shall I be paid for the participation in your organization?
NO! I will not say anything else.
27. What do you need this politics for? Why don't you just stay at home, have some beer with your friends?
That is because we love our Motherland and want to have prospects in the future. Because we want to feel ourselves people, not cattle. Live by honor. Not to compromise with injustice, but fight it. We do not fear taking responsibility of our destiny.
28. You are going to make revolution by street actions and flash-mobs?
No. For a victory, it is necessary to knock up to heart of each Belarusian, it means, to cover all directions of work, to work with all target groups, to inform everyone corner of our country. In BUNT there will be a place of interests and abilities for everyone. We want everyone to decide on his own what he wants and start to do it, to do what he is capable of, to feel personal responsibility. And we want him not to wait for someone who will solve destiny of his Motherland for him.
29. What do you demand from authorities?
- Lukashenko's immediate resignation and dissolution of illegally elected Parliament;
- Cancellations of results of all anticonstitutional acts;
- Carrying out of investigatory actions and attraction to the responsibility of all guilty of anticonstitutional crimes of 1994-2007, including, guilty of disappearance (death) of Ganchar, Karpenka, Zaharenka, Zavadsky, Krasovsky;
- Freedom for all political prisoners and rehabilitation for condemned on political affairs.
30. You are good guys and girls, but soon all of you will be imprisoned for participation in the unregistered organization or for terrorism in general.
More or less radical actions of opposition cause severe reprisals from authorities. Youth structures are marginals and are under a sight of KGB. It means that Belarusian resistance doesn't suffice strong, good secreted organization. BUNT applies for such place. Our people are well trained tactics of nonviolent civil resistance, they are organized in separate independent groups which make republics network. BUNT has no strict hierarchic structure, the responsibility in movement is strictly differentiated, and everyone is occupied only with his business and doesn't know about work of other groups. It allows to escape interruption of work of all structure in case of arrest of the basic figures of movement. Our people are courageous, reprisals will not stop us, and on the contrary it will give us additional enthusiasm for struggle. As far as pressure is, but resistance, which will capture each Belarusian city and settlement, authorities will be unable to stop. Be with us! Only together we shall win!
31. You are idlers; you only can make PR in Internet and spoil the walls.
Join us, you will tell how it should struggle really. We will try to work better.
32. You seem to me too radical, changes should occur gradually and evolutionally, our people will not understand you.
Our people is not such silly as you think it is. And according to the evolutionary theory by Darwin, changes occur during the thousands of years. We don't have time еў wait - we already want to live today, instead of existing under the oppression of criminal authority. The rotational pseudo-leader, imitation of negotiations with a regime and the leaflet of the torn off from the validity ideas aren't necessary for us. We are bothered! Time to win has come, don’t simulate struggle.
33. What will be with BUNT after victory?
If you didn't jump the river, don't speak "yes". We have accepted the important rule for ourselves - while in Belarus the authority will not change, not to discuss mechanisms of the further actions. In any case, one of BUNT's tasks is the education of a generation of young professionals for work in absolutely different political spheres. We do not doubt that activists of BUNT's will work on benefit of our Motherland and after the Victory.
